This week there have been news articles about Outabox, an Australian company that scanned faces for bars and clubs, suffering a security breach that has highlighted privacy concerns over facial recognition.
“Wired” reports that a website has emerged claiming to be set up by former Outabox developers called “Have I Been Outaboxed.” The website asked visitors to enter their name to check if their information is included in a database of Outabox data, which the site alleges had lax internal controls and was shared in an unsecured spreadsheet. It claimed to have more than 1 million records.
