U.S. law-enforcement agencies in Colorado have recently begun deploying a new generation of portable forensic imaging technology designed to accelerate evidence discovery and documentation at crime scenes. The system, developed by the UK-based forensic technology company Smytec Ltd, is now being used by investigators in collaboration with the Lakewood Police Department and the Colorado Auto Theft Prevention Authority’s Metropolitan Auto Theft Task Force.

The solution enables investigators to rapidly locate and record critical forensic evidence, including latent fingerprints and biological traces, without relying on traditional chemical processing. This approach helps preserve crime scenes while significantly reducing the time required to identify and document potential evidence.

At the core of the system are advanced computer vision and biometric technologies powered by Vigilate.
